At the Institute for Convergent Science, we collaborate with a variety of affiliate organizations to advance our team-based, problem-centered approach to research. Our affiliates include schools and departments at UNC-Chapel Hill, plus a variety of external companies, higher education institutions, government agencies and foundations.
UNC Affiliates
Innovate Carolina
Innovate Carolina is the University-wide initiative for innovation and entrepreneurship. It provides an innovation services hub that helps Carolina faculty, students and staff move more ideas into the world faster to make the greatest social and economic impact.
UNC Research
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research oversees, develops and supports UNC’s $1 billion research enterprise. It fosters and supports collaborative, interdisciplinary teams to accelerate new discoveries and solutions to emerging challenges.
NC Policy Collaboratory
The Collaboratory develops and disseminates relevant best practices to interested parties, leads and participates in projects across the State related to natural resource management, and makes recommendations to the General Assembly.
College of Arts & Sciences
As the largest unit on campus, the College of Arts and Sciences forms the academic core of the Carolina experience. The College is home to more than 16,000 undergraduate students, and more than 2,500 graduate students study and teach in the College.
Department of Applied Physical Sciences
The applied physical sciences department lives in the collaborative space between science and engineering, combining knowledge and discovery with an engineering mindset, team-based science, and entrepreneurship.
UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering
The unique partnership that UNC-Chapel Hill has with NC State University provides a wealth of opportunities for research, group collaboration, coursework, and exposure to experts in medicine and engineering.

Eshelman School of Pharmacy
The pharmacy school develops leaders in pharmacy education, practice and pharmaceutical sciences who make a difference in human health worldwide. Department of Chemistry
The chemistry department conducts research in all areas of modern chemistry, and its researchers generate more than 300 publications annually and have over 100 patents filed within last 10 years. Current faculty bring in over $21 million of external funding annually and have extensive collaborations with industry and other academic institutions.
Department of Psych & Neuroscience
The pschology and neuroscience department engages in psychological research and scholarship of the highest quality to provide excellent teaching and service, informed and enhanced by its efforts to discover, synthesize, and transmit knowledge. It is a driving force in emerging research and making connections with other disciplines.
